Ultra-Valuable Truffle Stash Passes Through Newark Airport For N.Y. Festival

NEWARK, NJ — It would have been a truffle-sniffing pig’s greatest dream come true.

To help prepare for the 2016 New York White Truffle Festival, which kicks off Saturday, Nov. 5 and includes several New York City area restaurants, Urbani Truffles and OTG recently transported more than 200 pounds of truffles valued at $600,000 through Newark Liberty International Airport.

The valuable fungus can fetch up to $150 an ounce and can reach up to five inches in diameter.
